Alma families invited to SEPAC/ELPAC family meetings on April 24th!

At Alma, we understand the importance of family involvement in shaping the academic growth of a child. The Parent Advisory Councils for Special Education (SEPAC) and English Language Learners (ELPAC) invite all Alma families to their next meetings, on Wednesday, April 24th from 5:30-6:45 pm at the Alma Family Center, Fisher College, 777 Church Street.

Navigating the IEP process

The IEP process can often seem overwhelming, especially if you're new to it. This is a legal document that outlines your child's learning needs, the services the school will provide, and how progress will be measured. It is crucial to understand the process to ensure your child gets the necessary support to succeed academically.

In the IEP meeting, the team will discuss your child's needs, your concerns, and outline a plan for the upcoming school year. It's essential that you actively partake in these meetings to have a thorough understanding of your child's academic journey. Your insights as a parent are invaluable in crafting a plan that best suits your child's needs.

Understanding intervention plans

An intervention plan is a strategy or set of strategies designed to help your child improve in areas where they're struggling. The strategies could include changes in the teaching methods, use of technological aids, or additional tutoring. Understanding these intervention plans can help you support your child's learning at home and monitor their progress.

At Alma, we believe in the power of early intervention. Early identification of a child's academic struggles can lead to timely intervention, resulting in better outcomes for the child.

Understanding your scholar's ACCESS results

ACCESS is a yearly English language proficiency assessment given to Kindergarten through 12th graders who are identified as English language learners. Understanding the ACCESS results can help you identify your child's strengths and areas for improvement.

The ACCESS results provide detailed insights into your child's listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension skills. Understanding these results can help you support your child's English language learning at home and set realistic expectations for their academic progress.
