Dear Alma Families,
We hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer! We’re writing to share an important update regarding our scholar dress code policy, specifically related to shoe color. Based on thoughtful feedback from scholars, staff, and families, we are currently reviewing this part of the policy.
While no formal change has been made yet, we want to let you know that the shoe color requirement will not be enforced during the upcoming school year. This means that scholars will be allowed to wear any color shoe, so long as the shoe follows all other requirements outlined below. All other elements of the dress code will remain in place and are expected to be followed as written. Please take note of the following headlines from Alma’s Uniform Policy:
Pants/Shorts/Skirts
- Pants, skirts and shorts may be khaki/tan, black, or navy blue in color. Pants, skirts and shorts must be khaki or chino material. Leggings may be worn only if under a skirt or jumper. No jeans, sweatpants or bike/athletic shorts/pants are allowed.
- Khaki or chino material pants with an elastic waistband and/or ankles are allowed.
Jumpers
- Jumpers are allowed in khaki color/material only; and an Alma polo shirt must be worn underneath the jumper.
Shoes/Socks
- Shoes must be close-toed and must have backs for safety.
- The following are not allowed as footwear at Alma: crocs, clogs, slides, sandals, flip flops, foam runners, or slippers.
- Any color socks or leggings (only when worn under skirts and jumpers) are permitted.
Shirts/Undershirts
- Scholar polo shirts -- Alma logo embroidered light blue polo shirts for K - 5th grades and navy blue polo shirts for 6th - 8th grades are required.
- Any color long sleeve shirt is permitted under the Alma polo.
Sweatshirt
- Alma logo embroidered crew neck sweatshirts & ¼ zip sweatshirts are allowed in navy blue or gray for all grades, K-8. Coats are not allowed to be worn during the school day - scholars will be asked to remove any outwear such as rain jackets or winter coats upon arrival at school.
- Hooded sweatshirts or zip-up hoodies are not allowed.
As we continue to reflect on this policy, we deeply value your voice. We encourage you to share your thoughts and experiences during our upcoming Family Forums and through family surveys that will be shared in the coming weeks. Your input plays a vital role in shaping policies that reflect the needs and values of our entire community.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in creating a positive and respectful learning environment for all Alma scholars.
In Service,
Janelle Engerman, Director of Culture
