What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I was drawn to the associate teacher role as it provides an opportunity to work while being trained as an educator. My visit to campus solidified my desire to join the Alma crew-I was impressed by the passion of the staff I met and the energy of the school. When I was a kid I attended a small K-8 school and am excited to return to a similar setting this time in a professional capacity.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to be a positive force in children's lives and be a reliable teammate to the other staff members.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
My seventh grade home room and English teacher, Mrs. Priestly, immediately comes to mind. She held our class to a high standard while remaining warm and approachable. I enjoyed how interested she was in our opinions and how she fostered classroom discussion about the books we read. Mrs. Priestly gave us different book report assignments that encouraged individual expression and creativity. She made me and my classmates feel seen and important.
Why did you become involved in education?
I loved school as a child. In recent years, I have enjoyed the handful of times I have volunteered at my children's elementary school and found myself regretting not pursuing a career in education. I am grateful to have the chance now.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school and what did you like about it?
Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. I loved the sense of community found on campus. I enjoyed the small class sizes and the frequent in class interaction with professors and other students.
