What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
Alma won me over from the first time I set foot in the door. The facilities are amazing, the staff are warm and friendly, and the students seem happy, engaged, and well taken care of. I am incredibly excited to be a part of the team!
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope to share my love of learning with the students at Alma and hopefully help them reach their full potential. There's nothing more satisfying than distilling what seems like a complicated concept down into something that is easier to understand and discuss.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
My favorite political science professor at Boston College, Peter Skerry, appreciated my intense nature in class and encouraged not only my debating skills, but also my capacity to seek out points of agreement among seemingly conflicting beliefs. Our chats before and after class were enlightening and his confidence in me was incredibly important at that time.
Peter Condrick, currently a lead ELA teacher at Alma, also happened to be my 6th and 7th grade history teacher at Derby Academy in Hingham. His passion was infectious and I hope his current students admire his teaching ability as much as I did. I hope to be a part of his classroom again this year, and hopefully I can absorb some of his pedagogical style!
Why did you become involved in education?
After years of working in the legal and sales fields without a feeling of fulfillment, I decided to heavily ponder what would make me happiest in life with regard to my career. What did I actually want to DO with my time every day? Teaching seemed the natural answer; a profession that wouldn't feel like work, but a calling.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school and what did you like about it?
I attended Boston College. I liked the beautiful campus, challenging and engaging courses.
What is your favorite food?
Cincinnati chili, my mom's recipe now made by my wife!
