What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
My family and I relocated from Texas to Massachusetts, and while searching for a job, I stumbled upon Alma. I had heard wonderful things about the school, and my visit to the campus was delightful. The welcoming and caring atmosphere that enveloped me upon entering the building made me feel right at home.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I strive to create a positive and supportive work environment among my colleagues and students. I am committed to bringing a strong sense of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity to my work, ensuring that I achieve my goals effectively.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
The educator who made the most profound difference in my life was Marvin Cofield, a basketball coach and P.E. Teacher from Laurel, Maryland, where I attended high school. Coach Cofield didn't just teach me the strategic game of basketball; he modeled what it truly meant to be a philanthropist and a leader. During my high school years, my life was filled with constant transition; I was on the verge of moving to yet another high school, which would have been my seventh school in just four years. Recognizing my need for stability, Coach Cofield and his family opened their home and allowed me to stay with them for my entire senior year. His selflessness, empathy, and unwavering mentorship provided the foundation I needed to succeed, teaching me that true education extends far beyond the classroom and the court.
Why did you become involved in education?
My journey into education actually began on the basketball court. After graduating from UTEP, I earned my alternative teaching certification, knowing that my long-term passion lay in shaping the lives of young people. After a rewarding chapter coaching college basketball, I officially stepped into the world of education, and I instantly fell in love with it. For me, education is a calling. Throughout my career, I have been incredibly fortunate to have brilliant mentors who guided my path and taught me the true meaning of servant leadership. To our families and scholars, my goal is to lead by serving you every single day, creating a space where every student feels seen, supported, and motivated to reach their full potential. To my colleagues, I am thrilled to collaborate with you, to learn alongside you, and to build an environment where we can all thrive together.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school, and what did you like about it?
I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Corporate Communication, Public Relations, and Marketing/Advertising from The University of Texas at El Paso, followed by a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University. Currently, I am pursuing a Doctoral degree in Education Leadership at East Texas A&M University. What I loved most about UTEP was the immense growth I experienced both inside and outside the classroom. Being a member of the Men’s Basketball team and being actively involved in my fraternity taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork, leadership, and discipline. The diverse skill sets I developed through those experiences truly shaped me into the person and professional I am today.
