What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I aspire to be a classroom teacher someday, and I want to be prepared to give my students the best education that I possibly can. Therefore, Alma's commitment to the growth of educators was very appealing to me. I am looking forward to getting to know the community!
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
I hope that my creativity, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail will help me bring an additional perspective to the table, and that my perspective will be able to help Alma's scholars succeed.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
When I was in fifth grade, Mrs. Franklin changed the way that I interacted with reading in school. I liked to read outside of school, but I struggled with some of the ways that reading was structured in school. Mrs. Franklin was the first teacher to notice my reading outside of school and treat it as an asset that I could bring into the school environment. She suggested that I use the public library books I was already reading outside of school for projects instead of keeping me confined to the much more limited selection at school.
Why did you become involved in education?
I believe that everyone deserves a high-quality education, and I think that ensuring a high-quality education for the next generation is a very powerful way to make a difference in the world. I have had a lifelong interest in learning and teaching, and I hope to pass along a love of learning to the students that I teach.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school, and what did you like about it?
Wheaton College. The professors in the education program are extremely supportive! They were invested in my education, and they fought for me to get what I needed to succeed.
I also loved my ultimate frisbee team - everyone was very friendly, and it was a real treat to be part of a truly mixed (gender) team.
