What made you decide to join the Crew at Alma?
I chose to join the Crew at Alma because caring for children has always been at the center of who I am — both as a nurse and as a person. Nursing taught me how meaningful it is to support families during vulnerable moments, and I’ve always felt most fulfilled when I’m helping kids feel safe, seen, and supported. Alma’s mission aligns perfectly with that.
What do you hope to contribute to Alma?
My goal is to help create an environment where kids feel safe, understood, and celebrated. I want to be someone who notices the small things, builds trust, and helps children grow socially and emotionally. I also hope to contribute to the team by being collaborative, dependable, and deeply committed to Alma’s mission of nurturing kids through connection and community.
What teacher made a difference in your life, and how?
Mrs. Whinnem made a profound difference in my life because she created an environment where every student felt like they belonged. She didn’t just teach — she connected. She listened, she joked around, and she treated each of me like I was her own. Being in her class showed me how powerful it is when a teacher builds real relationships and makes kids feel seen and valued. That sense of connection shaped the way I show up for children today. I learned from her that belonging isn’t just a feeling — it’s something you create through warmth, consistency, and genuine care.
Why did you become involved in education?
I became involved in education because I’ve always believed that the way we show up for children shapes who they become. As a nurse who loves kids, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when a child feels safe, heard, and supported. I wanted to be part of a space where I could build those kinds of connections every day.
Where did you go to college or post-secondary school, and what did you like about it?
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. What I loved most about my college experience were the connections I made and the community I found, especially through my cross country team. Being part of that team gave me friendships, support, and a sense of belonging that shaped my entire college journey. Running opened doors for me — opportunities to travel, compete, grow, and push myself in ways I never expected. It taught me discipline, resilience, and how powerful it is to be surrounded by people who share your goals. Those relationships and experiences are still some of the most meaningful parts of my life.
